Fjelldansen is a regional competance hub for dance based in Valdres and supported by Arts council Norway, Oppland County and Valdres Natur- og Kulturpark.

In FRIKARs research lab in the middle of a sheep field in the Norwegian mountain valley of Valdres Fjelldansen has found its home inviting the world to this silent place. Fjelldansen creates spaces for meetings between the local and global dance arts. Our activities include

  • Residencies for dance artists from Norway and abroad.
  • Research lab especially focusing on dance in nature and contemporary dance empowered on ancient knowledge
  • Seminars and network meetings to enhance the development of infrastructure for the dance arts of the regions of Valdres and Hallingdal.
  • Work in progress-shows by our artists in residence
  • Artistic talks between the artists and our local audience.

The word 'Fjelldansen' means 'mountain dance' and derives from summer parties in the mountains. We have this many centuries old tradition of dancers, musicians and fighters from different valleys catching up in the mountains the week after harvesting. These meetings have been crucial for sharing impulses on dance and music.
