ABOUT FRIKAR

FRIKAR is a dance company that was established in 2006 in Valdres, Norway. We combine different art forms through innovation and thinking outside the box. This has resulted in national and international awards, good reviews of our work and had an audience reach  on about 400.000 people in 35 countries. 

 

FRIKAR consists of a dance company, a regional competence centre for dance, a national talent program and an annual project called Draumefangaren with approximately 3500 visitors. FRIKAR has been described by Innovation Norway as “a highly successful company” and by National Geographic as “wildly inventive”. Our workspace is playful, professional and social. 

 

FRIKAR as a company is ambitious and we are growing steadily. This requires employees who are both creative, can work independently and prioritise a variety of tasks. We also work on deepening our understanding of art and communication combined through becoming a better employer for our freelancers. This requires positive internal collaborations as well as a predictable economy for our company. FRIKAR’s turnover doubled from 2017 to 2019 and we aim at re-doubling it again to 12 million NOK over the next four years. From 2020 FRIKAR will receive operational support from Innlandet County.

 

FRIKAR consists of an Administration and a Creative Team. The Managing Director is head of the Administration, which currently includes a team of a Producer for public repertoire, a Corporate Partnerships Manager overlooking commissioned shows and a Project Manager. Bookkeeping and the company’s economy is handled by an external accountant. In our Creative Team, the Artistic Director is responsible for overseeing and carry out projects in close collaboration with a choreographer. 

 

CEO/Managing Director

 

As CEO/Managing Director you will be the main point of contact for our team of six employees and twenty freelancers. FRIKAR as a company is in growth and our team of people is expanding as well as changing. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support throughout the employees’ life cycles. You will also be responsible for managing the company’s economy and budgeting. 

 

The CEO/Managing Director will always aim at inspiring the employees and collaborators to do their utmost and perform their best for FRIKAR. The MD will contribute with and carry out strategies based on FRIKAR’s vision and goals. 

 

The tasks include: 

  • Being the main point of contact for our six employees. 
  • Create, manage and overlook strategic collaborations. 
  • Political work and writing applications for funding.
  • Managing budgets and FRIKAR’s economy. 
  • Being a good representative for FRIKAR through networking and presentations. 

 

We are looking for someone who is great at:

  • Collaborating and working both in teams and independently. 
  • Inspiring and encouraging the team. 
  • Structuring a creative company and making our artistic dreams happen!

 

PRODUCER

As the Producer for our public projects and repertoar, your main responsibility is to facilitate for our Creative Team’s artistic work. The Producer will make sure that the Creative Team can focus as much as possible on art, and that our performers have excellent working conditions. The Producer will also work on expanding the audience reach after the premiere and extending the different projects’ lifespan.

 

The tasks include:

  • Both individual work and teamwork.
  • Creative sparring prior to starting new projects.
  • Contribute to writing applications for funding. 
  • Planning and logistics.
  • Developing current legal contracts and drawing up new legal contracts when necessary. 
  • Being responsible for project related budgets.
  • Building networks and further pitching of our projects.
  • Delivering reports by the end of projects. 

 

About you:

  • Structured and good at following-up on and creating structures for the company.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken in Norwegian and English, nynorsk is a bonus.
  • Always looking for opportunities and being a problem solver.
  • Good at predicting practical needs based on creative plans.
  • Being able to organise and delegate tasks when necessary 

 

CHOREOGRAPHER 

As a choreographer for FRIKAR you can both use and expand your creative skills within the frames of our values and initiatives. You will work closely with our Artistic Director. Together you will be leading the Creative Team as well as working closely with the administration to make innovative projects possible. You will also collaborate with our panel of advisors, which consists of a spectre of artists and creators, about the planning and carry out new projects. 

 

The Choreographer position is a 50% of fixed term contract of three years. It will give you the freedom and time to work on other projects in addition to FRIKAR, though we do require a regular and continuous collaboration with our Administration. 

 

The tasks include:

  • Both individual work and teamwork.
  • Creative sparring prior to starting new projects.
  • Having the artistic responsibility for certain projects and contribute to others.
  • Developing concepts.
  • Choreography. 
  • Directing.
  • Being a good representative for FRIKAR through networking and presentations.

  • Think differently and being able to describe ideas to others in the team.
